TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) is ideal for adults (18+) with treatment-resistant depression who haven’t found relief with medication or therapy. It’s not suitable for those with conditions like a seizure history or metal implants in the head.

Who Can Benefit from TMS?

  • Treatment-Resistant Depression: Ideal for those who haven’t found relief with antidepressants or therapy.

  • Adults (18+): FDA-approved for adults; not typically recommended for children or teens.

  • Medication Side Effects: A good option for those who can’t tolerate antidepressant side effects.

  • Other Conditions: Sometimes used for OCD, migraines, and smoking cessation, though research is ongoing.

Who TMS is Not For...

  • Seizure History: TMS is not recommended for individuals with a history of seizures or seizure disorders.

  • Metal Implants: Those with metal implants in the head (e.g., plates, screws, or shrapnel) are ineligible due to interference with magnetic pulses.

  • Medical Implants: Devices like pacemakers or vagus nerve stimulators may be impacted by TMS and need careful evaluation.

  • Pregnancy: TMS is typically avoided during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary, with risks to the baby carefully considered.
